Overview: We are inviting applications for two exciting PhD Opportunities student, each focusing on distinct but related areas of advanced engineering. Ideal candidates will have a strong foundation in mechanical, materials, civil, or aerospace engineering and will develop expertise in key research areas throughout their doctoral studies.
Position 1: Processing and Characterization of Functional Materials
- Focus: Synthesis of polymers and nanoparticles for advanced manufacturing and functional behavior
- Skills: Mechanical, electrical, morphology, and rheological characterization
- Techniques: Instrumentation and control of thermal, electrical, dielectric, and pneumatic actuators
Position 2: Mechanics and Manufacturing of Architected Devices
- Focus: Computational solid mechanics, structural dynamics, and fracture mechanics
- Skills: Finite element analysis (FEA), generative design, and mechatronics
- Techniques: Physics-driven design and basics of microcontroller applications
General Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s and preferably a Master’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering
- Strong programming skills and familiarity with machine learning platforms
- Must meet the Ph.D. admission requirements of the ME Department
