Google fixes major security flaws in the pixels and dozens more

Google has addressed a significant security vulnerability in its Pixel devices identified as CVE-2024-32896 with the latest security update. This high-level security flaw was part of the Pixel Firmware until Google fixed it. While Google did not release detailed information about the flaw, the company indicated that CVE-2024-32896 may have been subject to limited, targeted exploitation.

Fix 50 security issues
In addition to CVE-2024-32896, the update addresses a total of 50 security issues. Of these, five concern different components in Qualcomm chipsets. The update also resolves a denial-of-service (DoS) issue affecting Modem, and several information disclosure errors affecting GsmSs, ACPM, and Trusty.

Rollout to eligible devices
Google is rolling out this update as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update for the Pixel 5a 5G and newer models. The devices receiving the update include:

  • Pixel 5a 5G
  • Pixel 6
  • Pixel 6 Pro
  • Pixel 6a
  • Pixel 7
  • Pixel 7 Pro
  • Pixel 7a
  • Pixel 8
  • Pixel 8 Pro
  • Pixel 8a
  • Pixel Fold

Pixel feature drop update
This security update coincides with Google’s Pixel Feature Drop update. However, not all devices will receive the new features; some are only eligible for security updates. As usual, the rollout is gradual, so it may take some time for the update to reach all devices.
